Book project
Ghost Towns
A survey of faded rail and mill communities across southwestern Mississippi and neighboring Louisiana. Draws on railroad commission reports, timber-company histories, Sanborn maps, and published local sources. Chapters are being outlined and drafted; no site coordinates or private property details will appear in the public text.
Book project
History of the Amite River
A planned regional history of the Amite River corridor—settlement, navigation, gravel and timber industries, and how the river shaped the towns along its banks. Still in early research and planning.
Map research
Old Maps
Cataloging and studying historic maps from public collections: USGS topographic sheets, General Land Office survey plats, Sanborn fire-insurance maps, and other open federal and state holdings. The goal is clearer place identification for the books and a careful reading of how the landscape was recorded over time.
Material culture
Glass Insulators
Research into glass telegraph and telephone insulators as artifacts of communication lines that once tied mill towns and depots together. Focuses on makers, styles, and the public history of the lines—not on collecting markets or private finds.
